The Future of “One Word” Domain Names and their Keyword.

February 27, 2009 - 5 Responses

I recently began buying “domain hack” names.

The “mag.net” instead of “magnet.com” because dot com names are few and far between.

I wonder if there is a popular future  for them because  they more unique?

I think there might be.

I remember domain hack names.

I like them.

I think I might even like them better.

Better than a dot com?

Possibly…

In the future, I’ll tell you why.

If my last name were “Stones”…

Or I engraved stone or sold stone in one form or another for a living…

Or owned a jewelry store…

I would want, and might pay alot for “stones.com”

Or settle for “stones.net”

Or go for “stones.biz”

or hundreds of other “one word” name options of  ”stones” with the country codes.

If I could get that “one word” url…with something other than dot com,

isn’t it taking away from “stones.com” when I register “stones.me”?

Is it taking little bits away from that dot com every time they come up with a new extension?

How many extensions are there already?

In the future, will they continue to come out with more & more of these “dot whatevers”?

How many “dot whatevers” can they make?

Will they just be allowed to forever sell pieces of your investment?

Which domain investment might have some built in immunity?

What names would be ones they can’t they keep selling pieces of?

Could the domain hack be the gem of the domain future?

They do look kinda cool with some graphics.

Quite simply they are smaller.

Like everything else that evolves technologically

In an industry that has always strived to be smaller and “more mico”…

Could the future subject of covet be the Domain Hack?

You Decide, I’m New.
